HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest continuous military campaign of the Second World War. For six years, Allied convoys and German U-boats fought a running battle across thousands of miles of open ocean.
It was a war fought in the dark. Submarines struck from below without warning. Escorts hunted with sonar, depth charges, and aircraft. The Atlantic itself was the battlefield — cold, vast, and indifferent.
Over 3,500 merchant ships and 175 warships were lost. Nearly 800 U-boats never returned. The campaign decided whether Britain would starve or survive.
You do not see
your enemy.
He does not see you either.
CORE CONCEPT
In TheWake, firepower is secondary. The real contest is fought with information — who knows what, and when they know it. Every sensor return is a clue; every silence is a threat.
You command your forces through a fog of war that never fully lifts. Visual sightings give you ship type. Sonar tells you something is there — but not what. Aircraft patrols sweep grid squares. Decoys lie. Every detection is true for only an instant.
AXIS · KRIEGSMARINE
Six submarines share an action-point pool. Strike from ambush, then vanish. Manage battery across four depth levels. Every decision trades stealth for lethality.
ALLIES · ESCORT FORCE
Twelve Liberty ships must cross the grid. Four destroyers, one escort carrier, and a web of sensors stand between them and the deep.
